How drivers can avoid distracted driving

Distracted driving is dangerous and results in car accidents. If you have been injured by a distracted driver, you will want to know about the legal resources available to protect victims and ways that drivers can help avoid distracted driving.

NCDOT tips

The North Carolina Department of Transportation has suggested several steps drivers can take to help avoid distractions behind the wheel. These include:

  • Avoid using a cell phone while driving or texting while driving.
  • Avoid eating while driving.
  • Avoid grooming while driving.
  • Avoid using the radio while driving unless it is to access easily accessible music.
  • Avoid playing the stereo so loudly that the driver cannot hear what is going on around them such as emergency vehicle sirens or car horns.
  • Avoid fumbling for items in the car by locating and/or securing them in advance.
  • Avoid navigating while driving by setting a navigation system in advance or having a passenger do it for you.
  • Avoid engaging with children while driving by helping them to understand the importance of good behavior while in the car.
  • Avoid traveling with unsecured pets in the car.
  • Avoid “rubber-necking” outside the car, as when drivers turn their heads to look at something.
  • Avoid daydreaming and other distractions while driving.

By following these tips to avoid distracted driving, drivers can help keep everyone safer on the roadways. Drivers who avoid distracted driving can cause fewer car accidents which may help to avoid liability for the injuries and damages victims of distracted driving accidents commonly suffer. Distracted drivers who are considered negligent may be liable to compensate victims for their physical, financial and emotional damages through a personal injury claim for damages.

Recently we have been receiving an extremely high volume of calls. We are doing our best, but at times we are unable to answer all calls, particularly at lunch time when there are fewer receptionists available. We are working to hire more receptionists.

In the meantime, if you are having trouble calling the front desk, please do the following:

If you are an existing client, or another person calling about an existing client, you may contact the assigned paralegal directly using the phone number and extension or email address provided here on the website. You may also come in person to the office and ask for the paralegal.

If you want a consultation to see about becoming a new client, you may come to the office in person and we will try to meet with you as soon as possible.

Thank you.
